Student Council

Scoil Asicus Noafa has had student committees working on target flags over the past number of years: Green Flag, Biodiversity, Global Citizenship etc. In 2022 we formed a more general School Council made up of two children from each of third to sixth class. The overall aim of the Student Council is to promote wellbeing among all the students of our school.

This year the Council conducted a survey among every class to ascertain children’s feelings about their safety at school. They gave feedback to the classes and to Mr Fogarty.

The Student Council were involved in organising and promoting our initial “Walk to School” morning of the current school year. It was a great success with over 150 students (and some parents and dogs!) walking together to school. It is to be repeated soon.

With the idea of “A healthy mind in a healthy body” the school has registered for the Active School Flag. This campaign will continue next year (2023 – 2024) and the Student Council will be actively involved.

A key role of the Student Council is to spread information to ALL the children. Each council member has a partner and together they visit their designated classes with news about all things “mindful” – Active School Flag activities, In my Shoes campaign etc.

Another element of the Student Council is the opportunity given to members to put forward issues/suggestions which are important to their peers. They can be a voice for their classmates.

Volunteering for the Student Council helps children to grow in confidence, to communicate clearly, to engage with children of different ages and to experience the satisfaction of getting involved for the good of others.
