WelcomeOn behalf of the Board of management and staff of Scoil Asicus Naofa, Strandhill, I welcome your interest in our school website. I hope you will find it informative and that it will give you a flavour of life in our school. In Scoil Asicus Naofa we recognise that all the children in our care are cherished equally. We want our children to recognise their own uniqueness and respect the uniqueness of others. We want our children to become life long learners, able to take full advantage of their next stage, or pathway, in their learning journey. Scoil Asicus Naofa, called after the patron saint of the diocese is thirty years old and is set in an idyllic location, nestled between mountain and ocean. The front of the school looks out across the golf course and the Atlantic Ocean. Behind us, Queen Maeve watches over our playground from her cairn on top of Knocknarea. The school has a long standing reputation in the area of sport. County titles have been won on numerous occasions over the years in Cumann na mBunscol, Gaelic football and hurling, soccer and cross country. Music features prominently in the school. There is a school choir which performs regularly at Mass and at various events. The children play percussion and tuned percussion instruments. Tin whistle is taught throughout the school beginning at First class level. Déanaimid iarracht Gaeilge a labhairt chomh minic agus is féidir. Tá sé mar aidhm againn an Ghaeilge a athbheochan mar teanga cumarsáide sa scoil. Glacann daltaí páirt I bhFeis Shligigh sna comórtasaí Gaeilge, mar shampla – cómhrá beirte, amhraínaíocht, cómhrá agus aithrisitheoireacht. The importance of ICT in the curriculum is shared by all staff. The pupils integrate ICT in all areas of the curriculum. Our school is equipped with the most modern, state of the art technoogy and we have recently updated our E-Learning policy to reflect this. Each classroom is fitted with interactive whiteboards, laptops with access to all state of the art software. The school also uses a mobile suite of laptops with access to wireless internet in all classrooms. We also have a set of I pads. Some classes have Twitter accounts to keep parents up to date with their school activities. In October 2015 we were awarded the Digital Schools of Distinction status. This is an award given to schools that have a proven track record of using ICT in the way the curriculum is delivered.
